What art means for each of us and what it means to create….
Wanting to share thoughts, emotions, make connections, have a conversation,
express pain or beauty or just be part of civilization.
Lee Mingwei who invented this performance work says “he creates participatory installations where strangers can explore issues of trust, intimacy and self awareness on one-on-one events. "
My large drawings are my way of asking the viewer to enter with their time.
Explore the notion of searching..Searching for a focus through the path inside and out.
Reflecting on the struggles of our own life and how we are each placed in civilization.
"May I give you a song?" This question is at the heart of artist Lee Mingwei's interactive performance work, Sonic Blossom (2015). In the Met's Modern/Contemporary and Asia Galleries, singers from Manhattan School of Music will approach Museum visitors at random with the query. If your answer is "yes," the vocalist will perform a Schubert lied. Mingwei compares the sporadic performances to "the folding and unfolding of a 'Sonic Blossom.'"
Sonic Blossom is made possible by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan (R.O.C.) and Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York. Presented in collaboration with Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW) and Manhattan School of Music
